Pensions Session March 2025
Thank you again for such an amazing warm welcome as always.
I appreciated Khansa translating for us which really helped I know that it was a challenge regarding such a comprehensive topic but well done and thanks for a fantastic job!
As promised I would forward on the links see below
There was a lot of information to explain just the basics and terminology of what a pension was, it's such a complex topic for anyone to understand. I kept it to basic explanations mostly around terminology as much as possible, but links attached could help people understand more and get access to more accurate up to date information. The links won't be relevant to everyone.
I think the main things I wanted to get across was that they might want to check to see what their state pension forecast is 1stly to see if they have one and 2ndly to see if they have any gaps. Where to go for FREE regulated advice and information ie moneyhelper, citizens advice and Age Scotland websites.
I also wanted everyone to know that it is a regulated area and they must always get advice from someone who is regulated by FCA (Financial Conduct Authority) as Pensions is a specialist area of work.
The other point I wanted to get across is the difference between state pensions, work placed pensions and private pensions. I just merely tried to breakdown basics on what they were and why someone would have those.
Also, those who haven't worked might still have an entitlement to a state pension depending on their circumstances if they were on certain benefits etc but to check the gov website or check with DWP if they are not sure. Also wanted to reiterate that you can still plan for a pension if you haven't worked and pension wise would be best to help them with this as they offer free appointments for anyone over 50. Age Scotland is also a good place to go for FREE advice. http://www.ageuk.org.uk/
I really wanted to raise awareness of moneyhelper, pension wise, age scotland and citizens advice websites which are reliable resources to start with. Also, to alert people to get advice from a regulated pension adviser and watch out for scams as these are on the rise for pensions.
